Merlin is the only specialist UK agency that responds worldwide with vital health care and medical relief for vulnerable people caught up in natural disasters, conflict, disease and health system collapse.

Their medical teams act fast to help people during emergencies in the world’s most difficult and dangerous environments: in countries torn apart by civil war; in territories blighted by drought; or across mountain regions devastated by earthquakes and landslides. 

Once an emergency is over the teams of doctors, nurses and public health specialists stay in place and work with national health ministries to establish effective lasting primary health services.

Helping children in Afghanistan

Merlin has been working in Afghanistan since 1994 providing health care to people in need. Merlin currently works in the mountainous regions of Takhar and Badakshan, bringing doctors, nurses and medicines to people living in remote and inaccessible areas. By focusing on health care for women and children, Merlin aims to reduce the high maternal and child mortality rates in the country.
