Voices of the Future is a long-term programme that will contribute to the resurgence of singing in schools and offer young people the opportunity to perform a newly commissioned work on the mainstage of the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in 2009. With the StratREAL Foundation’s support, teacher training and personal development is inspiring and empowering teachers to become singing leaders, ensuring that singing in schools can be thoroughly developed. Participating teachers remain on this programme for a two year period, receiving both formal training (at least one session per term) and also more informal support from ROH Artists and staff. The skills and confidence they develop as a result will last their careers, inspiring thousands of young people. With the StratREAL Foundation’s support, last year the Royal Opera House worked with 46 teachers who in turn are responsible for the provision of music to every primary school in Kent, enabling the programme to reach literally hundreds of teachers and thousands of students. We are now moving into our second year, the highlight of which will be a choral performance by 225 young people on the Royal Opera House stage on 14 March. |
